Craps Table Etiquette

Believe it or not while you may hear all of the hollering and yelling at the craps table, there are certain unwritten rules of etiquette that are expected to be followed. The first rule is to be courteous to dealers, casino staff and other players. Casinos do their best to promote the image of playing craps as being exciting and fun, but sometimes a player who has had too much to drink may take the party atmosphere too seriously and be just too wild.
When you first walk up to the table wait to buy your chips until the shooter is done shooting or until the dealer asks if you want to "buy-in." Always place your cash on the table and NEVER try to hand it to the dealer. The dealer is not allowed to take money directly from any player and vice versa. All transactions must be on the felt layout so that the infamous eye in the sky can ensure there is no funny business going on between a dealer and the player. Once you put your cash on the table tell the dealer "change only please." Otherwise, it may be considered a bet.
The dealer will then take your money and lay it out so that the box person can see how much it is and then the dealer will place you chips either in front of you or on the Come area of the layout. The box person will then put your cash in the cash box through a hole in the table. It is kind of the casinos way of telling you to say "bye-bye" to your money. They will use a lot of psychological tricks to keep your cash.
Once the dealer places your chips in front of you it is your responsibility to pick-up your chips and place them in the chip rack. If you do not remove your chips from the table, it may be considered a bet. Don't worry about hurrying to remove your chips from the table too much because the dealers will give you plenty of time to pick up your chips from the layout. The stickperson will keep the dice in the middle of the table until the dealers are finished paying the winning bets, collecting the losing bets or making change for new players (and for people who need to reach into their pockets to buy more chips).
Always, always, always keep your hands above the chip rack (above the rail). Do not let your hands or fingers hang over the edge of the table. Many players are superstitious and believe that if the dice accidentally hit your hand or fingers that it will cause a 7 to appear. It is bad luck to let the dice hit another person's hands or fingers. This is why you will see other players getting very upset if someone is reaching in at the last moment to make a bet.
When you are the shooter, use only one hand to hold the dice. Do not rub the dice with both hands. The casinos do not allow players to rub the dice with both hands because it grinds the edges. Using one hand to control the dice also helps to assure the table crew that you are not trying to switch dice or that you are not a dice mechanic (a player who replaces the official casino dice with crooked dice).
Do not spend an excessive amount of time setting the dice or going through any lengthy routine. The other players and dealers will expect a person to roll the dice within 3 to 4 seconds of receiving them from the stick person.
Always be nice to the dealers. Always toke the dealers. If the dealers are rude or not courteous to you, you have the option to leave the table or the casino. For the most part the dealers are nice and will help you - - so long as you treat them fairly. I routinely toke the dealers after a win and generally ask them where they want to place their tokes as a bet. The dealers appreciate this gesture because it allows them to "get into" the game and if they win on there bet, your $1 or $2 could be as much as $10 or more. Contrary to popular belief, the dealers are paid mostly from tips.
It is considered bad luck to mention the word "seven" during a roll. It is also generally considered rude to ask to "color out" or to "color up" in the middle of a shooter's roll.
Be polite to the cocktail waitress. If you request a beverage (if you are playing it better be non-alcoholic), toke her a $1 chip. The cocktail waitress earns most of her money on tips.
Simply stated, be courteous and respectful, avoid behavior that is rude, pushy or belligerent. Do not attempt to force your way into a crowded table. If there isn't room on the rail for you to place your chips in a separate section, you should not be there. Especially do not attempt to push your way into a hot table next to the shooter.
If you are only watching a companion, friend or partner and are not betting, and have no intention of making a bet, do not stand at the rail. Leave the space for another player who does want to get in on the action.

Utilizing your waiting time

Waiting time can be frustrating and annoying, but it seems to be part of most people’s daily life. The waiting periods might include waiting to be served in a shop, waiting in waiting rooms, waiting for the other party to answer the phone, waiting for a friend at launch time, waiting in a traffic jam, to name but a few possible waiting situations. Try the following suggestions to make your waiting time more productive and beneficial.

• As a general rule, try to avoid waits by shopping and traveling outside of peak hours.
• If shopping during a busy period, be certain to position yourself strategically at shop counters so the shop assistant is in no doubt about whom to serve next.
• Be quite prepared to say to queue jumpers: Excuse me. I am next to be served!
• When shopping for specific items, do it by telephone and have the purchases delivered, if possible.
• Consider shopping from mail order catalogs. No traffic, no parking and no shop counter waiting.

• When placing calls to parties who have very busy periods, call at off peak times.
• Organize your telephone table or desk so that you can write or read while waiting on the telephone.
• If a switchboard operator puts you through to an extension but there is no answer, jiggle the hangup button in order to get back to the operator to leave a message.
• If calling long distance, be certain to say to the answering party: I am calling long distance for … so that waiting will be minimized.

• If you have a doctor’s appointment and from past experience have found the waiting room to be full on your arrival, telephone ahead and ask what delay is anticipated.
• Make appointments for the first time slot in the consultation period so that you are not faced with the all too common, ‘The doctor is running a bit behind schedule’.
• Always take your own reading material, as waiting room magazines can be dated or of no personal appeal.
• If you have generally been kept waiting for more than 30 minutes over several different appointments, tell the person with whom you have the appointment that you would appreciate every effort in keeping to the scheduled appointment time, as your time is important too.

• When in a traffic jam, relax your white-knuckled grip on the steering wheel and practice relaxation exercises.
• If you are planning to venture into the depth of a traffic-congested city, consider parking at a suburban train station and taking a train to avoid the waiting.
• Brush up on your music appreciation via tape or radio while you are waiting in traffic.
• Consider the possibility of installing a mobile telephone so that you can catch up on your calls while waiting in traffic.
• Inquire about flextime working hours so that you are not traveling during the peak commuting times.
• If caught without a book or other resources, study the people around you, any observable wildlife or even the weather patterns. An absorbed mind will make the waiting time pass more quickly.
Managing time well is the hallmark of an efficient worker. Most people can name several busy people who always seem to be on top of their time. They are well-organized, prepared for the hassles of everyday life and they are self-disciplined. Here are some time management strategies which might help you to become more time effective:

• More efficient use of telephone talking time.
• Less interruptions by incoming telephone calls.
• Saving time in meetings.
• Preventing unwanted office visitors from distracting you.
• Using your commuting time more effectively.
• Organizing your house and your housemates to help save your time.
• Dealing with domestic driving tasks most efficiently.
• Using waiting time in shops, on the telephone, in waiting rooms and in traffic jams to best advantage.

By implementing the suggestions , you should find that you will not only get more work done, but you will also generate self respect. Being on top of your time generally means that you are in more effective control of your life-and that is a very pleasant and productive state of being.

The Secret of Charm

A confirmed pessimist or a dull individual can never become charming to anyone. Charm and pessimism are mutually exclusive. Similarly, lack of enthusiasm, dull feeling, drab approach and defeatist attitude kill your charm. You must be alert, keen, interested and lively to become charming. People should not shun your company but look forward to it eagerly and enthusiastically. If you are not optimistic and bring hope to people no one will welcome you. If you are a messenger of gloomy forebodings, people will dread you and go out of the way to stay out of your path. Therefore, look at things and speak about things in a positive and optimistic manner.

Selfishness is a serious and mortal enemy of charm. If you wish to increase your charm, be helpful, considerate and thoughtful to the needs, feelings and requirements of others do not speak or act in haste. Never try to gain at the expense of others. Be mindful of the hopes, aspirations, pride, prestige and age of the other person. Take care of their comforts and anticipate their reactions. People generously respond to considerate thoughtfulness on their behalf. It melts the hardest heats and develops a personal bond. They become touched and genuinely affectionate. They will ignore your minor drawbacks and disadvantages willingly and smilingly. If you contradict people, humble them in public, criticize them even justifiably, they will not take to you kindly. Tact, sympathy, unselfishness, modesty, kindness, sincere appreciation and such finer qualities spring from thoughtfulness and constitute the ingredients of charm.

Appreciation is the lubricant that keeps the machine of human relations running smoothly. It makes people feel more important than anything else you can give them. Not only have human beings, even animals craved for it passionately and hungrily. Everybody without exception likes to be appreciated. Wife for the excellent dinner, husband for the good business deal, brother for his performance in games, sister for her mastery in music, clerk for his accurate work, boss for his efficient management, neighbor for the help he gives to others and the shopkeeper for his choice selections and attractive display. You and I are no exceptions and we like appreciation like anybody else. Both of us will go out of our way to do things for people who we know will genuinely appreciate them. We need not wait till some one does something big for us to show our appreciation. Instead, we must take the initiative and start looking for things we can appreciate in people. We can oil the gears of human relations in advance by adding to our requests to others, just a few more words like, ‘if you please’, ‘would you mind’, ‘may I have the pleasure of’, ‘can I ask for a small favor’, and so on.
You can multiply your charm million times if you can give sincere and generous appreciation to those with whom you come into contact. If you fail to give appreciation you will be termed as a critic, snob, bore or proud individual. You can spot the good points of others if only you take some trouble. Generally, people have both good and bad points, strong and weak personality traits. It is for you to observe and spot out the other person’s strong and good points. There is hardly any individual who is entirely bad and totally devoid of good or strong points. Some one may be good in sports and another in studies or debates. Some people may be good in music, painting and similar other fine arts. May be one has an interesting hobby. Perhaps he dresses impeccably and pleasingly. He may take regular exercise and have a body like Hercules. His knowledge on different fields like literature, science, engineering etc. may be extensive, up-to-date and authentic. Thus there is always some point, some field, and some quality in which every individual excels. You must quickly discover that point and give sincere and honest appreciation on the same.
Since every person feels superior to others in some way and craves for the recognition of this fact, the sure way to impress him is to let him know in a subtle and sincere manner that you do recognize and appreciate his importance in his chosen field. If you talk to a man about himself and his interests, he will go out of the way to accommodate you. He will be hungry for your company and his doors will always remain open to you.

You want to make a good impression the first time you meet someone. You want to tell about all the great things you have done. You want to talk about the clever things you have said. You try to impress the other guy by letting him know how important you are. It does not and never will. The real way to impress others is not to talk but to listen. If you want a person to like you instantly, listen to him enthusiastically and let him feel that you are very much impressed with him. Just for a moment analyze your own reaction and consider how you feel when you meet someone who straight-away starts buzzing into your ears, letting him go full blast about him. No, you begin to yawn. You curse your luck under your breath. You explore all the avenues to slip away, possibly without giving any offense. Then on the next occasion you make doubly sure that you avoid this person.
Conventional ability enhances your charm considerably. To be charming an individual should be neither dumb nor a bore. You can avoid these extremes by becoming an interesting and intelligent listener. In fact the secret of being a good conversationalist lies entirely in your ability to listen to others with keenness, interest and reasonable awareness. If you pay the compliment of being a good listener, it would encourage him to talk more and more about himself. In the end he will seek out your company on his own initiative. In fact all of us long for appreciative and sympathetic audiences. Being a good listener does not imply that you should be dumb throughout. On the contrary you should be an intelligent and appreciative listener. You should give the required encouragement. You should ask relevant questions, should indicate your basic or elementary knowledge of the subject. Besides this, you must maintain your interest on what is being narrated to you. You should not yawn or start looking at the watch or the clock on the wall. Do not interrupt or try to change the subject abruptly. You must try and draw others out on their pet or favorite topics. It will help you to know the area of their interests, their likes and dislikes, their habits and routine, their inclinations and idiosyncrasies, their hopes, wants, aspirations and objectives. The more you know about the individual the easier it will be for you to create the impact, to motivate, influence and lead or co-ordinate. In proportion to your ability to function as a good, sincere, patient, enthusiastic and interesting listener he will regard you to be charming and crave for your company. If you read widely and keep abreast with current events, if you keep your general knowledge up-to-date, you will be able to take part in the conversation with greater zeal and enthusiasm. Incidentally, the very act of listening attentively to others itself will enable you to increase your knowledge. Similarly, reading the lives and achievements of great people will enable you to make useful and penetrating contributions during conversations.

Importance of Work

One of the secrets of happiness is to keep busy. To launch out upon one project after another, to be planning the next before the current one is finished-this is the path to satisfying living.
Especially is the above true when we do things we really like doing. Perhaps you say, ‘I like doing nothing’. But you will agree that you have enjoyed greatest satisfaction when you have been busily occupied with some worthwhile project. See to it, then, that the greater part of your precious leisure is devoted to doing things, making things, achieving things.
It is normal and natural to be active and creative. Many of modern man’s needs are met with little effort. It is important therefore that he keeps busy by finding worthwhile projects for himself, activities which will make demands on mind and body, and challenge skill and ingenuity.
Remember, being busy does’t destroy peace of mind-it creates it! Idleness and consequent boredom are the trouble-makers. They give us time to smart under imagined grievances, chafe under emotionally-induced aches and pains, wallow in self-pity, and droop in depression and despair.
That is good advice. Be sure to follow it. And as you do so, you ‘ll experience the following benefits.

Your Health Will Improve – As you pass your leisure with satisfying projects, your general health will improve. That is because you will be happier due to the satisfying of one of your basic needs-to create. The intricate mechanisms of the body always function smoothly when the mind is happy. In other words, you will now be enjoying emotionally-induced health. The killers and the disease generators are the negative emotions like jealousy, resentment, hate, envy, pessimism, worry; but you have little time, energy or desire for these when you are busy with a project.

Your Mind Will Keep Alert

Your most treasured possession can not deteriorate when it is kept busy grappling with project after project. Consider what is involved.
First, conceiving the idea, whether it’s building a shed, making a swimming pool, raising money for a charity, improving your home, painting a picture, writing a book, spring-cleaning, learning a language or raising a prize chrysanthemum.
Second, the planning of the project: how long it will take, how to go about it, where to work, what materials to use, how much it will cost.
Third, the actual accomplishment of the project: wrestling with problems which arise, reading the necessary books, acquiring new skills, imposing your will on matter, and making yourself competent if not perfect.
All these make demands on mental powers and help to improve their quality.

You See Things in Truer Perspective

Doing things you like doing is therapeutic in the extreme. You face life’s problems so much more sanely and surely when you have plenty of recreational activity. Boring chores, heart-breaking duties, daily tasks, never seem quite so bad when you return to them after a spell on a satisfying project. You see then that woes and afflictions and duties are only a part of life. There is spring as well as winter.
What is more, keeping busy on a project helps you to recover from life’s calamities. While hands and mind are busily employed, wounds heal. Time carries out its blessed therapy, and self-pity is kept at bay. So next time life hurts you, turn to some absorbing project without delay.

You Are Easier to Live With

The joys of creativity will shed a golden aura over your whole personality. You will be less irascible, better balanced, more fun-loving, more relaxed. Achievement and genuine effort will make you feel rightly proud of yourself, and self-respect, as pointed out elsewhere, makes it easier to like others. A virtuous circle is initiated. And of course, your very achievements will also earn you respect.
Keeping busy with projects increases your zest for living; it will put a sparkle in your eye and a spring in your step. You ‘ll always have something to talk about, some thing to hurry home to, something to anticipate.
Another welcome by-product is increased self-confidence. You become a smiler and a winner. You fall in love with life.

Importance of Voice and Words in Life

The initial impression created by your appearance is immediately confirmed or contradicted by your voice and words. Words are the media to convey your thoughts, feelings and mind. They are the instruments with which you establish effective contact with people. To begin with, people are affected by the tone of your voice. A wailing or whining voice has an instant depressing effect on those who hear it. Similarly, the voice can at once show your interest, sincerity, warmth, enthusiasm and keenness. It can indicate regard, respect, arrogance or submissiveness. It can convey sincerity or affection. A pompous, superior tone invariably produces an adverse effect. It makes one feel that he is being regarded as inferior or even as an intruder. In the same way, friendliness, cheerfulness and genuine interest can be relayed by the mere tone of your voice. The tone of your voice can thus be regarded as a kind of mirror of one’s personality. Confidence, determination, understanding, sympathy, irritability, haste, superciliousness-all these and amny other personality traits of an individual can be detected from the tone of his voice and the manner of his expression. The voice and speech can make an immediate impression either in favor or against the speaker, on those who hear them. One should therefore carefully and assiduously develop the act of speaking in a manner to attract rather than to repel.
Next to the tone we adopt, the choice of words is important. The words, phrases and expressions we use will give an insight to our personality. It does not mean that we should use long, bombastic words. At the same time, repetition of stereo-typed catch words, set phrases and cheap imitative expressions will indicate poor education, poverty or vocabulary and slovenliness. To create the right impression, voice and words are thus very important.

Forceful and Convincing Expression

Next to the tone of voice of for that matter allied to the tone of voice, one’s power of expression counts a great deal in creating the first personality impression. Even a genius will be at a terrific disadvantage if he lacks the ability to express himself effectively. If one speaks in a morose, dull and dragging manner he will not be able to create a strong impression. He has to be eloquent, powerful and arresting in his speech. He should convey confidence and conviction when he talks. His tone of voice and choice of words should reflect the mood of his thoughts. If one speaks with confidence, coherence and enthusiasm, he will be able to create and hold the interest of other persons. His arguments should be logical and reasonable. If one makes tall claims but fails to support them by concrete fact he will cut a sorry figure. Power of expression has the ability to overcome, neutralize, change or strengthen the transient impression formed on others by one’s initial facial appearance. By words, expression and communication, one can influence the minds of others and leave lasting impressions. An ugly or deformed appearance is no serious impediment to great speakers. Since thought can be expressed well in writing also, we are equally drawn to great and powerful writers. One should thus develop his power of expression in order to establish and build up favorable personality contacts.

Don’t Criticize and Complain

People are varied, unpredictable and fascinating. One should not judge them or try to reform them but understand them. You must show them that you really and honestly care for them by co-operating willingly with them and giving more, talking little. You will become vital to others if they could thus see your selfless interest in them. Noon likes being criticized or found fault with. Every one gets annoyed with those who contradict him. What is more, criticism, that too in public, curbs one’s enthusiasm. It makes the individuals sullen and resentful. One must, therefore, avoid criticizing others in public or for that matter even privately. Instead one can tactfully and diplomatically offer suggestions. What is more, before we even think of criticizing a person or complaining against his omissions and commissions, we should try to understand him. We should look at the matter from his point of view. Besides, by action, by concrete results etc. we can subtly bring to his notice the better and more effective methods of doing a particular job. This will make him like us more. On the other hand hasty, outright and sharp criticism will only make him hate us. He will try to justify himself and refuse to change or improve. Therefore to make and maintain favorable personality impacts, criticism and complaints should be carefully avoided.

Sitting and Meeting Etiquettes

• Join in the conversation that is going on among those present in the company. Do not adopt a gloomy attitude or a posture of depression while sitting in a company. Wear a smile on your face and sit in the company in a fresh and joyous mood.
• When you go to a meeting take a seat wherever you find room. Do not make a bid to move ahead by pushing through or jumping over the heads or shoulders of the people.
• In a meeting, do not try to dislodge a person from his seat in order to occupy it yourself. This is a very bad habit.
• In a meeting where people are sitting around in a circle, do not sit in the center of the circle. Such a behavior is not only ridiculous, but extremely improper.
• Do not try to grab the seat of a person who leaves his seat for a while. Keep his seat reserved until he returns. However, if it is known that the person will not return, you are free to take the seat previously occupied by him.
• Do not separate two persons sitting together in some gathering without seeking their permission. They might be sitting together because of intimacy, love or for some other reason and separation may hurt their feelings.
• Avoid sitting at a place of distinction in a gathering. If you pay a visit to somebody’s house, don’t try to take a seat of distinction, save in case the host himself insists on your taking such a seat. Always sit in the meeting in a respectable manner. Do not spread your feet or stretch your legs.
• Do not make a bid to always sit near the person presiding the meeting. Sit wherever you find room, and leave space for those who arrive after you to find a place to sit conveniently.
• Seek the permission of the chairman before you say anything in a meeting.
• Only one man should speak at a time. Each one should be heard with full attention.

Nonetheless be careful to send gifts of the value which your means can afford and by restraining your feelings of sincerity and love.

Fitness Etiquette

• Regard your health as of great value and take every care to safe guard it. Health once lost is hard to recover. The essence of human life is reason, faculties of reason, morality, faith and knowledge. It is only the physical health which ensures the proper functioning of human faculties of reason, morality, faith and knowledge. In fact, physical health is the basic factor in the development of mind and the growth of reason; it is also a pre-requisite for the performance of sublime acts of morality. A week and sick body has a feeble mind whose faculty of reason can not but be unsound and utterly hopeless. When life is devoid of longing and ardor; when there is no courage and the will is weak; when the passions have cooled down and are exhausted such spiritless existence is a drag on the infirm body. It is imperative therefore, that one have robust physique, sturdy intellect and sound mind, firm will, high morale and a life full of spirit, enthusiasm and sublime passions.
• You should always be cheerful, glad, alert and active. Make your life well ordered, elegant, and healthy by means of good living, cheerful manners, joyful smiles and lively disposition. Avoid sorrow, anger, grudge or anxiety, envy, jealousy, slander, narrow-mindedness; don’t lose your spirit and keep your mind clear of all complexes. These moral ills have an adverse effect on the digestive system and a defective digestive system is the major cause of poor health.
• Do not lift more burden than your strength can bear. Do not waste your physical energy. It is obligatory that you should save and protect your physical strength and use it with moderation according to the capability.
• You should always be industrious, energetic, hard-working, painstaking and bold in your daily life. You should form the habit of facing all forms of hardship and tackling with the most difficult situations. Prepare yourself to lead the hard. Don’t be ease-loving, careless, delicate, indolent, timid and a materialist.
• Be an early riser - Keep your sleeping hours within limits. Don’t sleep little, for in that case your body will not get proper rest and your limbs will feel exhausted and weary. On the other hand, do not sleep for long hours, for in that case you will become lazy and inactive.
Get up early in the morning. Go for a walk and relax there. The fresh air of the morning has a salutary effect on health. Make it a point to do some light exercise daily according to your physical strength and endurance.
• Learn Self-control – Keep your passions, fancies, desires and lusts under control. Peace of mind and contentment of the heart evaporate when the passions are given free rein. Having lost these attributes, these persons prove to be timid, weak-minded and cowards in life.
• Save yourself from intoxicants - They affect the brain as well as the stomach. You should refrain from using all things having an intoxicating effect.
• Eat at the proper time - Abstain from over-eating. Don’t munch all the time. Take food only when you feel the appetite and stop eating before your stomach is filled, so that you should still feel slightly hungry when the meal is over. You must never indulge in over-eating.
Good health depends on proper functioning of the stomach. Over-eating makes the stomach sick.
• Always eat simple food - Eat whole wheat bread. Avoid spiced and pungent foods and have no unnecessary craving for tasty delicacies.Make it a point to eat simple, easily digestible, nourishing and healthful diet.
• Eat in perfect peace of mind and in a relaxed mood and chew the food well. Avoid eating in a mood of sorrow, anger, anxiety or perplexity. The food that is eaten in a cheerful and peaceful state of mind nourishes the body, whereas food that is gulped down in a state of anxiety or grief has an adverse effect on the stomach and affords no strength to the body.
• Take a nap after the mid-day meal and go for a stroll after dinner. Avoid strenuous physical and mental exertion immediately after the meals.
• Take good care of your eyes. Don’t expose your eyes to glaring light. Don’t set your gaze upon the sun. Don’t read in either faint or intense light. Always study under a clear and soothing light. Avoid keeping yourself awake for too long. Protect your eyes from filth and dust. Always try to keep your eyes clean. Go for a walk in the fields, gardens and green pastures and amuse yourself. The sight of greenery has a pleasant effect on eyes. Guard against casting evil glances, for this practice will dim the sparkle of your eyes and your general health will decline.
• Be careful about dental hygiene and protect your teeth. Clean teeth keep you fresh, produce a good effect on digestion and cleanliness makes the teeth firm too. Form the habit of cleaning your teeth with any tooth paste or powder. Don’t spoil your teeth by too frequent use of tobacco. Clean your teeth well after every meal.
Unclean teeth cause various diseases. Make a habit to clean your teeth on getting up from sleep.
• When the need arises to answer the call of nature fulfill it promptly. Delay in answering the call of nature affects the brain and the stomach badly.
• Pay full attention to keeping yourself neat, clean and tidy.

Visiting Patient

• If someone is sick or hospitalized, visit him in person if the doctor allows. If it is not allowed, you can call his family for an update on the patient’s health and recovery.
• Ask the family of the patient if they require something. While visiting the patient, either take those things with you or send them through courier. If they do not ask for anything, continue sending flowers or take some fresh fruits with you. It is good idea to send good self-help and inspirational book to the patient to help in building his/her morale.
• Give patient hope; even if the patient is in poor condition and you are worried about him/her.
• Keep your voice low, turn your cell phones off while visiting hospitals and clinics and make sure that you visit only during the “visiting hours”. Be polite to the staff and cooperate with them.
• If you are a patient and are leaving the hospital, buy a small gift and leave it at the reception or in your room to show your dedication to all those who took care of you.

• Many people visit others without invitation or without prior information. They reflect bad manners. Do not you think it is more civilized to call up the person you are ready to visit to know if he/she is available and specify as to how long you would stay.
• When you visit someone and the doorbell or knock is not answered, go back. If the housemaid or personal assistant tells you that the person is busy or in a meeting, don’t insist on seeing the person even if you had set up an appointment. Some emergency or unforeseeable thing might have come up or occurred after you set up the meeting. However, the host should also be courteous enough to give a call to the person coming over and postpone the appointment before time.
• When you visit someone’s office or home and do not find the person, leave a message at the door or with the office secretary saying why you were there.
• If you call someone and hear the voice-message, always leave a message with your name, contact number and the purpose of your call.
