Forceful and Convincing Expression

Next to the tone of voice of for that matter allied to the tone of voice, one’s power of expression counts a great deal in creating the first personality impression. Even a genius will be at a terrific disadvantage if he lacks the ability to express himself effectively. If one speaks in a morose, dull and dragging manner he will not be able to create a strong impression. He has to be eloquent, powerful and arresting in his speech. He should convey confidence and conviction when he talks. His tone of voice and choice of words should reflect the mood of his thoughts. If one speaks with confidence, coherence and enthusiasm, he will be able to create and hold the interest of other persons. His arguments should be logical and reasonable. If one makes tall claims but fails to support them by concrete fact he will cut a sorry figure. Power of expression has the ability to overcome, neutralize, change or strengthen the transient impression formed on others by one’s initial facial appearance. By words, expression and communication, one can influence the minds of others and leave lasting impressions. An ugly or deformed appearance is no serious impediment to great speakers. Since thought can be expressed well in writing also, we are equally drawn to great and powerful writers. One should thus develop his power of expression in order to establish and build up favorable personality contacts.
